Working in an area which is disaster prone and susceptible to landslides, restoration of forest cover becomes imperative. The Forest and Climate Change Programme has as objectives to;

• Improve the living standards of the small holder farmers by increased tree planting programmes
• Develop strategies that will build the capacity of local communities and institutions on the climate change adaption and mitigation to a large extent
• Restore degraded lands through beneficial tree planting
• Work towards the protection of fragile ecosystems in Cameroon such as Mt Cameroon, Mt Bamboutos and Lebialem Highlands.

Agro Forestry Programme

With an increasing population, the need for more farmland, the component apart from regenerating forests, equally proposes agro forestry solutions to farmers to help them use more natural nitrogen fixing and fast growing trees to solve problems of decreasing yields

Over 7000 farmers belonging to some 200 farming associations have been mobilized and sensitized on effects of climate change and mitigation methods. They are educated to plant tree to protection the environmental and also using typical agroforestry technologies (alley cropping, live fencing, contour farming, crop rotation, forest gardens etc) to improve on their agricultural productivity

Some 18 million seeds of different agroforestry species couple with some farming equipment have been distributed so far to farming groups, schools and local council.

The Mount Cameroon Globally Threatened Trees Project

The Mt. Cameroon region supports forests known to be of exceptional scientific, economic and social value, containing a great variety of endemic and endangered flora and fauna species. These forests of Mount Cameroon are highly threatened by conversion to agriculture, logging and hunting. Cameroon was recently identified as a priority for threatened tree and 15 of the country's Critically Endangered trees are recorded from Mount Cameroon.

A ten to twenty thousand capacity tree nursery has been established to grow these selected rare species, which will be planted out in natural habitats within the National Park and in the surrounding area.

Other threatened, economic species and native trees that are valued by local communities are being raised at the nursery and planted out in farms, buffer zones and within the Park. This will serve as a sustainability strategy to conserve the threatened and economic species found within the Park.
