For the past 10 years, ERuDeF has been working towards the effective conservation and management of the biodiversity of the Lebialem Highlands. Highlands is considered part of Cameroon's biodiversity 'hot spot', known for their exceptional species richness including; Birds, Mammals, Reptiles, and Amphibians.
The human population in this area is made up of over 85% farmers and hunters. This has a long term reducing effect on both the wildlife species and their habitats. Recently, ERuDeF launched the creation of a series of protected areas in this landscape in order to consolidate the conservation and management of this area's biodiversity.
The introduction of alternative livelihoods and economic development initiatives will serve as incentives to reducing human pressure on the wildlife resources and habitats.
